Curriculum 2009/2010

11-13

Students in Years 7 & 8 follow the same learning programme. They have English, Maths and Science for 10 hours in readiness for National Curriculum Assessments. The Competency Curriculum, which focuses on the development of students skills and talents, is covered through Expressive Arts, Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages and Personal and Social Education. The remainder of the Curriculum Time is taken by Physical Education, ICT and Technology. These are following National Curriculum schemes of Learning.

13-16

All students start most of their GSCE/Vocational courses at the beginning of Year 9. There is a wide variety of choice in the Vocational block including Health & Social Care, Business, Catering, Media, Art & Design, Travel & Tourism, Hair & Beauty, Construction and Motor Vehicle. A further option of two hours study is offered in Humanities, Expressive Arts, Languages and Technology. All students also do BTEC Sport as part of the Academy's Specialism. There is flexibility in the 13-16 Curriculum for some students to gain their qualifications at the end of Year 10, whilst others will take three years to complete their KS4 courses.

Post 16

The 6th Form opened in September 2009 and offers a range of qualifications. Level 3 BTEC courses include Media, ICT, Sport and Health & Social Care. A-Levels include Psychology and Maths. Motor Vehicle is initially offered at Level 1 with the hope of progression to Level 2 after one year. All students will also take CoPE and recreational PE, as well as having the opportunity to do GCSE Maths and English Language if required.
