Zero's to Heroes for Oasis Academy Wintringham students

A group of U13 students from Oasis Academy Wintringham have scooped an award for ‘Greatest Team Endeavour’ at the inaugural Oasis Community Learning Annual Awards ceremony, held in Birmingham on the 11th May.

The group came together having never played hockey before, and many of them would not even have considered a trial for the team. However, with determination to train through rain, snow and shine they have committed themselves to learn the tactical side of the sport to a high level. Their endeavours have paid dividends. They now hold the title of District Hockey Tournament winners, and are sitting at the top of the local schools league.

Jane Bowman, Principal of Oasis Academy Wintringham, said, “This is fantastic news. They really do fully deserve this award. The amount of effort that they have put in is a real example for all our students.”

Steve Chalke, Founder and CEO of Oasis Community Learning, said, “These students have excelled in what they have achieved. They have attempted something they would not normally have done, worked hard and their efforts have been rewarded. Oasis Community Learning have just launched their Education Charter, part of which says that we are perseverance, and we are achievement – attributes which perfectly describe this group of students.”

Year 8 student Ben Flanders, said, “This is amazing. We’ve really enjoyed working together and learning together, and to win an award for something we enjoy doing is just great.”

Our Education Charter statements encapsulate the core essence of what Oasis Community Learning is striving to achieve; the values in the statements express what motivates our educational emphasis and focus, while also describing the attitudes and attributes shared across our organisational family. These statements are our identity and DNA – they inform the reader or listener who we are, and what we want to achieve, both in an educational setting, but also in our holistic approach to each and every person we encounter.

The Oasis Charter, which spells out the things that motivate our educational focus and emphasis, can be found here, and is captured in the format, ‘We Are...’:

We are community – we are relationships
We are learning – we are achievement
We are unique – we are inclusive
We are enjoyment – we are perseverance
We are hope – we are future
We are Oasis...

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
