Global Links

As the Academy is part of the Oasis family it allows us access to numerous global links which can be used to our advantage. Our primary link in the Oasis family is with Oasis India who work among people in poverty and socio-economic vulnerability to improve their situation. Our links with India have allowed a number of opportunities for both staff and students with talks, education, community work and visits on both sides of the partnership. The link with India has given the Academy the chance to understand the economic hardship and social inequality that is experienced within the area of India Oasis work. We have shared in their challenges and successes and have helped raise the profile of Oasis India and the work they do through numerous fundraising opportunities.

Our newest link at the Academy is one that has been recently forged with Oasis South Africa which is based in Cosmo City, a deprived suburb of Johannesburg. The first steps were taken with our new link when Adri-Marie a youth and education worker from South Africa Oasis visited the Academy in the summer term 2009. The visit from our South African partner gave Academy students and staff the opportunity to learn about the life and work that our partners are providing in an area of social and economic deprivation. During the visit our students were treated to talks, presentations and singing workshops to name but a few of the interesting activities. Our South African partner also got the opportunity to learn about our local area and the role the Academy plays in the local community.

Our global links are continuously growing as we forge new links with both Oasis groups and other global charities and companies. We see our global links as a way to enrich and grow academically, morally and socially and aim to provide students and staff with as many opportunities as possible to enrich their knowledge and awareness of different parts of our world and enable them to be a global citizen.

Purpose

As part of the ‘Global Oasis Family’ the Academy is in a unique position to allow our community to experience global links first hand. This allows us to understand the diversity of different cultures, build knowledge of different parts of the globe, become more socially aware and become global citizens.

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
