Darren Campbell
02/05/2008
We were highly fortunate to be visited by Darren Campbell on 1st May. Darren came to speak to our students about his life, his beliefs and how he finally achieved his dream of becoming an Olympic Champion in Athens 2004, in the Men’s 4 x 100m relay.
In two addresses to our students he told us of his beginnings on a council estate in Manchester, how he used sport to motivate himself, how he set himself dreams for the future, how he overcame the problems that came his way and how he finally won his gold medal. He stressed the need to keep trying and never be happy with being second best.
A truly inspirational speaker, who thoroughly deserved the gold medal hanging around his neck.

Darren Campbell’s ‘speech’ taught us a valuable lesson, a lesson to try and never give up! Darren Campbell had a less fortunate background to a lot of people, however this didn’t stop him achieve his dream; when he was just 12 years old he realized he had a talent, he realized what he wanted to do, he was going to become famous and known. He had watched the Olympics and saw the rewards given, having seen this he decided he was going to the Olympics. Having being brought up by a single parent in a ordinary council flat also having no famous background this would be a hard task; however, he trained and worked to his maximum to achieve is goal, his dream. He did. He competed in a series of events at the Olympics, this was made possible threw belief, hard work and focus he made this possible!

Well Darren Campbell proves to be inspirational and a great role model he wowed us all with his heart warming story and how he fore filled his life long dream he showed us how “anything is possible as long as you believe and to never say never , if you want something so much push yourself and keep on pushing one day you may get what you have always dreamed of it” just shows that maybe one day we could be as successful as Darren and I’m sure Darren has made us think off what we want to do and helped us on our way to for fill our dreams.
