On the 18 th June Lewis Dixon, Matthew Cropley, James Gelsthorpe and Joshua Walker represented the Academy at the Annual District Tennis Tournament at St James Tennis Club. They started the day very well and topped their group stage convincingly. The Semi Finals drew us against TollBar which we won and got us in to the final for the first time in 15 years. The final was against Healing and it started well for us but in the end Healing edged through to win. The boys played extremely well and next year hope to win!!!
The girls U15 team then tried their luck in the same tournament on the 8th July. The pairings were Abby Westermnan, Jasmine Day and Eleanor Taylor and Casey Leggett. Both pairs started brightly and saw the team progress into the quarter finals were they faced . In the semi finals they faced TollBar who were the eventual winners of the tournament. Some excellent tennis was played by all of the girls and another record finish for the Academy tennis team in the space of 2 weeks!
The District Athletics was hosted by the Academy on the 2nd of July at King George Stadium. 12 Schools entered with promotion to the First Division the Academy’s main aim. The students conducted themselves extremely well all day and some fine performances were recorded. Paige Cooper romped home in the 800m with a time of 2:39s. Jo Burns won 200m as did the Yr 10 girls relay team. The day ended with Oasis Wintringham being crowned Division 2 champions as well as Overall Boys Yr 7 Champions, Year 10 Girls and Boys Division 2 Champions and Overall Boys Division 2 Champions. Another great sporting success for the Academy!!
The Academy also had their first annual sports day on the 8th July again producing some pleasing results. Most of the staff and students went down to the stadium to take part and all said they had a really good day. The starting team of Mr. Owen, Mr. Broderick, Mrs Greetham and Mrs Ireland helped make the day run smoothly, making sure the students were not hanging around for too long. Mr. Hallam got his legs out but had to cover up his head and Mr Short and Mr Anstead both looked like they had been for a week in Spain after being out in the sun a bit too long!!!
The overall Community Winner was HANOVER but it was a close affair.
Well done and thanks go out to everyone involved.
