Can my child bring a mobile phone to school?

Yes, they can. However, they must be switched off and put away at the school gate on arrival and not used until leaving the site. If seen, the phone will be confiscated and parents required to come to the Academy to collect.

How do I pay for school lunches?

By bringing cash to put in the machine, a cheque to pay in or online via Parent Pay.

What percentage of your students are selected on the basis of faith or ability?

None at all.  All places at the Academy will be free and available to the local community within an admission policy that mirrors the admissions arrangements for other local community schools.  Students will be accepted irrespective of ability or faith

Are Oasis Academies faith schools?

Staff and students of all faiths are welcome to be part of each Oasis Academy and faith is not a factor in the admissions criteria for the school.  The academies are 'schools of religious character' in order to enable Oasis' ethos of inclusion, which is grounded on the Christian faith, to be prominent in the school's character.

Who funds academies?

Academies are publicly funded independent schools.  The majority of the funding comes direct from central government.  The  Education Funding Agency  (formerly the YPLA)  will fund the annual running costs of the academies via a grant each academic year.  The sponsor has responsibility for the day to day running of the academy.  Oasis academies are sponsored by Oasis Community Learning, an exempt charity.

What is an academy?

Academies are state-funded independent schools and in many cases, join an academy network or family.  

What do I do if my child is sick?

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please contact the Academy opting for the Reporting Student absence option  before 8.30am. If your child is unwell for consecutive days, please contact the Academy on each day that they are unable to attend.

Can my child wear jewellery and accessories?

No jewellery should be worn apart from small stud-type earrings.  Small discrete watches may be worn.  Any religious jewellery should be worn beneath clothing.

Does my child have to wear school uniform?

We strongly believe in the importance of school uniform as we believe it helps create a strong sense of identity and unity.  As such it is compulsory that it is worn at all times of the school day.  

What is the parental feedback procedure?

If you have a complaint about any aspect of the Academy, please contact the Academy office where we will talk you through the relevant procedure. If the matter is really urgent a senior member of staff will normally see you as soon as possible.  However, specific staff will not be able to see parents without an appointment. Please email, write or telephone: an appointment can usually be arranged at short notice.

Can anyone join the academy or is there a catchment area?

All places at the Academy are free and available to the local community within an admissions policy which mirrors the admissions arrangements for North East Lincolnshire. Students will be accepted irrespective of ability or faith. Full details about admission to the Academy can be found on the admissions section of the website.

Are tracksuit bottoms allowed for PE?

There will be an option for students to wear tracksuit trousers for PE. They must be black or navy blue.
