History

Main Task – We have spent the past two weeks looking at the history of medicine. This week we are going to look at ‘medicine in the 20th century’. I would work your way through the BBC Teach Lesson (link below). There is a real variety of tasks that you could complete.

·          A film about advances in medicine during the century

·         Archive footage of Sir Alexander Fleming

·         A film about the founding of the NHS

·         Two activities to test knowledge

Something Fun – Why not try making your own ‘Cardboard Castle’? All you need is some cardboard, some sticky tape and some scissors. You could even send a photo of your completed castle to us for us to share on social media! If you’re struggling for ideas you could watch this handy video from English Heritage; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGH2bteGpTA or just google ‘cardboard castle’ for some inspiration.

Challenge Task – You could write a short paragraph about how medicine has changed from the 19th to the 20th century. What has changed? Has it been important? Why?

Geography

You should have signed up to SENECA by now but if you still haven’t you will need to do so before completing this work (Please see the link to sign up on your emails – this would have been sent by your geography teacher).

For today’s lesson complete as many of the tasks below as you feel comfortable starting with Task 1.

Task 1: Complete the ‘Rivers and flooding’ section on SENECA. Work through the reading and then answer all the questions. I will be able to see your results to the questions you have answered. Feel free to treat this like a competition with your classmates. This should take you roughly 20-35 minutes to complete. Remember Seneca is mobile friendly so if you are struggling to access a computer you can log in and complete this on your phone.

Task 2: Complete the ‘Case studies of rivers’ assignment on Seneca, in the same way you would the task before. This should take you roughly 5-15 minutes.

Task 3: Exploring case studies further:

Click on the two Bitesize pages below and read the case studies and for a challenge answer the questions on the word document called ‘Case study questions’. If you complete these questions please email them to Victoria.Harries@oasiswintringham.org :

Performing Arts:

Investigating the character: Creating a monologue

Directors will often encourage actors to improvise and create imaginary scenes that happen outside the text of the play. This helps the actors’ understand the characters better.

In this lesson you will take on the role of an actor playing Bottom or Titania. Use the document in the subject files to experiment with creating and performing a monologue to help you understand how the characters’ feel.

Music:
